Cursive H
h is an arch with a stem, and the arch is the part that decides whether the letter reads cleanly or turns into hl. A cursive h is a tall letter, and it hands over to the next letter low.
This is the same renderer the generator uses. Open it with h already filled in to change size, rows and guides, then print.
How to write a cursive h
- Start on the baseline and sweep up to the top line.
- Retrace straight down to the baseline.
- Retrace to the midline, arch over to the right, come down to the baseline and exit low.
A h sits in the tall zone. Capital H is two tall stems joined by a cross stroke at the midline.
Joining h to the next letter
h exits at the baseline, so the join is short and flat. ha, he, th.
Where it usually goes wrong
The hump is too wide, which makes h look like hl. Keep the arch narrow so it fits inside one letter space.
Words to practise after the letter
Once the single letter holds its shape, put it into short words where it appears once: he, the, happy. Type any of them into the generator above and it will lay out eight ruled rows of tracing for you.
